This is going to be a weekend of intensive and comprehensive photography education with a ton of hands on shooting and learning time, valuable critiques, opportunities for one-on-one instruction, creativity & exploration, and, of course, fun!
The workshop will take place November 11-13, 2016 at the outstanding St. Eugene Mission Golf Resort & Casino near Cranbrook, BC and will cover all of the important essentials to making better photographs while in MANUAL MODE!
She has done this several times in the past, with simply beautiful and fascinating results. It’s truly amazing to see how different folk, armed with their favourite picture making gadget, can tell an entirely different story about the place that we all know and love, largely for many of the same reasons.
That’s the spirit of this event. Where do you live… capture it. Show the world, though your own eyes and so-very-unique perspective, what it is that makes the place you live a special one.
Each year, the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk encourages photographers from around the world to gather on the very same day “to explore, photograph, share photos with one another, make new friends, and be a part of a great cause.”
This year, the Worldwide Photo Walk will support The Springs Of Hope Kenya Orphanage, an organization that feeds, houses, educates and empowers young orphans giving them the chance not merely to survive but to succeed.
It is encouraged that each participant donate what they can. Every little bit will help make a difference in these kids lives!
I cannot believe we are hell-bent for fall… already!
Honestly, it feels as though we just enjoyed the longest day of the year, looking forward to all the SUP-ing and BBQ and farmers markets and all the wedding day loveliness that defines many a photographers summer.
Well… and then, you know, the weather happened. I guess that’s why it must feel that impending autumn seems just too durned fast! Just go with it! Because all is not lost…
With the crisp mornings of autumn also comes the promise of fun: The Windermere Fall Fair & Scarecrow Festival!
We’re particularly excited this year as the ol’ ShutterBirds are going to be a part of it! We’re taking on the Photo Contest and are urging all you photogs we know and love to come on out and share your talents and artwork with the masses.
All the necessary info is listed below. Act soon… we know all too well how these things can sneak up on ya! Get your photography on and get those entries in ASAP!
With all the rainy coldness we’ve had since our early April summer, I couldn’t help but need to revisit a little snippet of summer from a late this spring.
We are so fortunate to have access to a beach house in Delaware and take advantage of it as much as is possible living clear across the continent!
But… as we hunker down through wedding, portrait and real estate season, this is just a little indulgence in dreaming of the big getaway and all the places that could possibly entail!
I’ve certainly got some favourites: the laid back Delaware beach house, the culture of the Yucatan (soon – two months and counting!) and, well, a particular fave for both Marlene and I, the intense, fragrant, bold, spirit and colour of fabulous Cuba – a hybrid workshop-photo tour currently in the works for 2017!
You’ve planned your vacation, and you’re so excited about all of the wonderful things on your itinerary and, of course all of the fabulous pic – ERK! Oh no!! I SO want to capture this trip in the best way possible… but how?!
To avoid this bout of self-flagellation over your lack of creativity/artistry/camera skills/camera gear, let’s consider where to start to ensure, regardless of creativity/artistry/camera skills/camera gear, that you are coming home with photographs that represent in the best way possible all of the unique, beautiful and fantastic things you will be seeing.
While having fun and increasing your confidence as well!
Once we get into that daily grind it can be really hard to learn something new, that’s just for fun. Sure, there’s plenty of training and education that might be required to expand your job prospects, that you HAVE to do… but how often do you take the time to learn something new, just for you?
A good photography workshop is about YOU
That’s what a workshop can offer. Regardless the subject matter, there’s nothing like an intensive few days, away from the demands of your everyday life, to fully immerse yourself in learning how to do something you’ve always wanted to try or get better at doing.
Time dedicated to learning, inspiration, creativity and, really, simply filling your cup with time spent focused on YOU. That’s the foundation of a great photography workshop.

What is a Photowalk?
According to the Wikipedia definition, “Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting.”
While you can certainly go about photowalking on your own – and are heartily inspirited to do so whenever possible! – in recent years it’s become an annual event in towns and cities across the globe to encourage photographers, amateur and professional alike, armed with the picture taking device of their choice, outside on to the streets to capture the spirit and life of their communities.
We’ve done it… we’ve come up with a great local photography workshop to get that creativity flowing and help you create images you will be more satisfied with, more consistently.
Crush the Composition! will help you beginning and aspiring photogs develop your creative photographic eye by introducing and reinforcing key concepts of composition and how to use them effectively. Through a combination of theory and hands-on practice it will be a day of fun, inspiration and learning to take your photography to a new level.
March 28th, 2015. 9:00am- 4:00pm.
A six hour intensive composition workshop comprised of the essentials to create images with far more impact and consistency… offering you the opportunity to grow as a photographer, happier with your photographs!
